Friends,
Last week I focused my work on creating a fun freebie to give people when they sign up for my newsletter.
This may sound easy, but it was actually pretty hard to think of something useful and desirable that I could create. There’s a lot of good content already on the internet – really it’s a blackhole of “good” things to look at and read.
So I went back to my original theme, my impetus for a blog in the first place which is this:
“Living a creative life”
I decided to focus on sharing a soft guide on living a creative life through education and practice…because the more we know the better we do, right? I LOVE reading about creativity – what it is, what it isn’t, how to live with it, and even the physiology of the brain as it relates to creativity.
I found some really good content to share, friends!!
My favorite thing I found is that there isn’t just one part of the brain which is responsible for creativity; and motivation – the DESIRE – to create is just as responsible for the act of creativity as any brain function. Anna Abraham says it all much better that I can on a podcast called “Discussing Neuroscience and Creativity” by the Fueling Creativity podcast. Check it out and let me know what you think!
I think this guide will be useful because the practices I’m suggesting, while creative and artistic, are also a great form of self-care. I’ve shared before how Elizabeth Gilbert, author of “Big Magic”, shares that creativity is like a dog that just needs to be walked…
Sundays are especially hard for me because I’m trying to keep the Sabbath day holy but I am restless and tired all at once. My creativity is basically barking at the door, whining for a walk, and if I ignore it I become itchy and irritable and snappy. It’s not pretty!
When I just give in, sit down with paper and pen/pencils/crayons/paints, and MAKE something – anything, even an ugly thing – I feel better!
I can’t wait to share this with you all! Soon. It’s coming soon.
Do you have any creative practices that you would consider to be self-care? I’d love to hear them!
